Dogs are indispensable to mankind in that they can be trained to do a lot of useful – and sometimes dangerous – things like rescuing people, sniffing out illegal drugs, tracking escaped criminals by their scent and even guarding a house agains burglars and perps.

Cats on the other hand, “do their own thing” and can seldom be trained to do stuff, even with a reward mechanism – i.e. by offering a treat as reward for doing something – that is frequently used to train dogs.
